Chumbe Island: (Coral Park) - (West Coast)

This secluded Island lies 8km south west of Zanzibar Town and directly opposite the Mbweni Ruins Hotel. It can be reached in a very short time in motorised boats. The island has been developed into a Nature Reserve and harbours one of the most spectacular coral gardens in the world and comprises Chumbe Reef Sanctuary - Chumbe Forest Reserve; Historical Lighthouse. The island is a fully gazetted and internationally recognised nature reserve and world's most spectacular shallow water for snorkeling and pristine forest on fossil coral rock. Over 40 species of birds have been identified on the island including the endangered Roseate, Tern, which made its breeding place since 1994 an ornithological phenomenal. The island boasts of 7 Eco-Bungalows all en-suite with solar-powered halogen lights, blends perfectly with the surrounding nature and situated between the beach and forest.
